I first heard about the Maker's Diet from my mom. It had been recommended to her because of her Crohn's Disease. It did help her significantly. My dad tried it, and had some great weight-loss results. A few years ago, my husband and I decided to give it a try. What's 40 days, right? The first few days, Andy was literally shakey and weak as he went through withdrawals from all the junk he was accustomed to eating. I had some pretty intense headaches myself for the first few days. Then, we felt amazing. We slept better. We had more energy. We both lost weight. Our skin, hair and nails looked incredible. This thing totally worked. And after making it through the first week or so, it really wasn't that hard. We intended to stick with it, but after a week of letting ourselves cheat after finishing the initial 40 days, we never got back on track. A few years, a desk job and kid later, I'm ready to give it another shot. Last time, we had so many people interested in what we were eating and how the diet worked. My generous husband probably purchased no less than 5 or 6 copies of the book for people because he was so passionate about it. So this time, I've decided to start a blog. It's much easier than answering the same questions and having the same conversations over and over again (although I'm sure we still will). This is not a fitness blog. It's not necessarily about weight loss either. We won't be doing weigh-ins or analyzing what kinds of fats we've eaten or counting calories or points or miles or anything else. It's simply about eating and living healthy. We've decided to officially start on September 23. Between vacations and birthdays and life itself, to start before that would be foolish. We would end up having to let things slide because we wouldn't be able to have the right food available to us. That gives me two months before we start. Two months to plan meals, make shopping lists, and get our refrigerator and pantry cleared out of all the junk we can't have. Last time, I learned the secret to succeeding with the Maker's Diet was in the planning. And if there's one thing I can do well, it's plan.
